Official Contest Rules

Deadlines

  1. Entrants must register no later than Wednesday, April 16, 2014
  2. Videos must be submitted no later than Wednesday, April 23, 2014
  3. Winning entrants will be notified no later than Thursday, May 1, 2014
  4. Prizes will be awarded at a party on Saturday, May 3, 2014

Entry Fee and Signup

  1. There is no fee to enter the contest.
  2. Entrants may register online at http://civicshakespeare.com/videocontestentryform.cfm, or may write to joe@civicshakespeare.com to receive a printable entry form.
  3. All contestants must complete the entry form by Wednesday April 16, 2014 to be eligible for prizes.

Eligibility

  1. The contest is open to individuals, theatre companies or any group of people living or located in Charlotte, NC, Mecklenburg County, and adjacent counties.
  2. All entrants must register by Wednesday April 16, 2014.
  3. Entrants may submit more than one video, but each must be considered a separate entry and requires its own entry form.

Criteria

  1. To win prizes, videos must either depict Shakespeare's text or they must be directly inspired by his text. Shakespeare's text includes plays that he wrote or co-wrote, his sonnets, music, and published poems.
  2. Videos must be shot within the region of eligibility.
  3. Videos must adhere to the same standards for language and content that apply to videos uploaded to Facebook, Twitter, and other public social media.
  4. Judges reserve the right to reject any videos they consider unduly offensive or ad hominem.
  5. Videos may be no longer than 15 minutes in length. Note that video length by itself is not a significant judging criteria.
  6. Videos may not contain depictions of copyrighted plays, without express written permission from the owners.
  7. Videos may not contain existing copyrighted footage, e.g., clips from movies, without express written permission from the owners.

Public display of videos

  1. Entrants must agree that submitted videos may be displayed publicly, for up to one year after the close of the contest, by Civic Shakespeare, on its Web site and/or its official social media channels.
  2. Entrants must agree to allow winning videos to be displayed at a public event at which the prizes are announced.
